Building online relationships is right at the core of your network marketing business. All to often we experience the “newbie” marketers and unfortunately sometimes “experienced” (and I use that term loosely) marketers going about relationship building all the WRONG way.

Since you can’t always meet fellow network marketers in person, it is sometimes difficult to establish a level of comfort and trust. That is why I am sharing with you today, my top 3 strategies for building online relationships. Enjoy!

Hi Amanda, I heard a great message from the master marketer Frank Kern the other day and he was saying that, we here it all the time “the money is in the list” but if that was true spammers would be making money hand over fist because they have the biggest lists.

You have to build a solid relationship and get to know someone before you start trying to pitch them on your business or trying to sell them your products. Great video Amanda. Having a Tribe to help you is HUGE, these 3 points you hit here are KEY. Thanks for sharing.

    Amanda Reply:

    Hey Christian!
I couldn’t agree more. I think the quality of your list plays a big role in your success as well as the quantity. Spammers obviously provide their lists with very little value so the quality of contacts isn’t so great.

I’m glad you agree with these relationship building strategies, and YES tribes are HUGE! :)

  2. Mandy Says:

Thank you Amanda for putting emphasis on relationships, I have not put all of those methods into play yet, for example joining a tribe. Where do you find one, or do you simply create your own? :)

    Amanda Reply:

Hey Mandy! Tribes come about in several ways. You can get a group of people together and form a tribe or you can join one already in existence. There are a few things that I think are key to have a super-successful tribe and I will be creating a blog post on that in the near future.

Yes, I am a part of a tribe that will actually be rolled out to the public next week. I will have details coming in the next few days so make sure you check back. :)

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog today!

    This is a Fantastic post!
Thanks for these great tips. They were a great reminder that I am pointed in the right direction with building great relationships online.

Thanks for all that you do.

  7. Daryl Whicker Says:

Great post Amanda! I agree with the three areas about building relationships and thank you for sharing this.

I’m going to make out a list on how to keep this in perspective since I have a challenge to do all three persistently because I strugle prioritizing the things that keep me self employed, building new relationships, cultivating existing relationships, and syndicating friends and tribe members.

Do you have any helpful tips on how to balance these four areas?

    Thank you Amanda, You’re awesome!

    Amanda Reply:

    Hey Daryl!

You make a very good point. It is difficult to manage your day to keep up with your income producing activities and build new relationships.

I would put your income producing activities first and foremost because after all, that it what keeps you doing what you love. Then I would set a little bit of time aside each day to keep up with friends… but don’t spend all day on Facebook and Skype (that is sooo easy to do!) :) Finally, by taking courses or following different leaders in the industry you will find new people to connect with.

    Hope this helped a little!

  8. Heather Taskovics Says:

    Amen, Sistah! :)

Spammers take note: stop trying to advertise your latest opportunity to people who have no idea WHO YOU ARE!!! Take the time to get to know your potential prospects…you’d be surprised what can happen.

Thanks for spreading the word on this!

Getting educated in our niche is really important. Otherwise we won’t have value to share. Being in a tribe gives us regular access to what others are learning too. Great presentation; you’re easy to listen to.

    Amanda Reply:

I completely agree that we should constantly be learning and tribes are definitely a great source of information! Thanks for the compliment Ingrid!

  12. Kitara R. Wilson Says:

    Hi Amanda,

This is such a valuable post and it comes right on the heels of me receiving a friend request from someone I don’t know on FB. I accepted and almost immediately the person sent me a message asking me to check out their opportunity video. I went ahead and looked at, the same day mind you, in support of a fellow marketer, and got back to the person with my feedback. And I figured it would only be fair to share my opportunity as well, so I provided the link to my site in my reply. Needless to say, I received a message back that they will “look at it when they have time” and I’ve yet to hear back….but they made darn tootin’ sure to send me the link to another video to watch based on a question I asked.

My point for sharing all of this is that if you’re going to have the nerve to thrust your opportunity in someone’s face and expect them to be open to it, you must also be willing to reciprocate when the same is asked of you. Of course your point to building relationships is so critical, and the person who consciously chooses to skip the relationship building and go straight to spamming will also fail to realize that an important component of any relationship is communication which involves give and take.

Thank you so much for the great advice. I’m excited to learn more about your tribe info!

    Hi Kitara!

Unfortunately what you described is a common scenerio.

Some people will never learn how to share their opportunity appropriately. Learning the “right” way to market (i.e. by building relationships first) is really the difference between a legitimate lifelong online business and a brief spurt of shortlived success.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us and for understanding the importance of building relationships!

  14. Kim Pottle Says:

My top strategy for creating lasting online relationships has been H.O.T. posting. Being honest, open and transparent has truly developed depth beyond belief. I have found that when you let people see who you really are you are able to establish a beautiful connection.

Of course, you have to find each other to make that happen!

Thanks so much for your tips Amanda! They are spot on, as always!

@Kim, I love your H.O.T. strategy! That is great! Yes, social media marketing is all about personal branding and just being you!

If you haven’t considered it yet, you should consider joining a tribe…. they are great places to find like-minded individuals with whom you can build powerful relationships!

    Take care! :)

  17. Spunky Jones Says:

I make most of my friends by visiting their blogs. I make comments that pertain to the discussion and slowly become blogging buddies. I’ll make guest posts and offer free suggestions how to improve their organic search engine rankings and other ways to improve their SEO.

It is just helping people and making friends. It works for me.

I haven’t did that well in the SEO world because I give away free SEO techniques. Many people in the SEO industry don’t like that because they charge money for the same information that I give away for free. Therefore, I am a black sheep, so to speak.

I probably have been actually too nice to some people. I answer some questions and then they ask a hundred more. It is hard to know where to draw the line. At some point, I have to tell them to read the posts on my blog and that I can’t walk them through every stage of becoming a blogger.

Once my blog gets a PR4 and my Alexa ranking are under 100,000 people will take notice. It is all about establishing credentials, and I am working on that. However, in the SEO industry, I will most likely still be a black sheep.

    Hey Amanda

My strongest online relationships were actually forged offline at marketing events. I’m a really social guy. I find that its easier to “vibe” with people and discover with whom I’d wish to build a relationship. I am, however, going to take your advice and hopefully develop some more relationships online. Thanks as always for the value you bring!

    Hi Amanda!
What a great video and post. I have been finding myself lost with all these twitter friend adds, and facebook people friending me who I’m not sure how they got my name and I’m thinking, how do I start creating relationships with all these people! I haven’t known where to begin. It’s like a sea of people I don’t know. Now I know I can start with my friends at The Unified Tribe, and start with a course I’m planning on taking that is offering the community, MLM Launch Formula. You’ve always got great stuff, Amanda :)

  20. Wendy Hewlett Says:

One thing that I think is very critical in establishing relationships is to be real. Be yourself – people will see right through you if you are putting on a persona and they will be turned off.

I haven’t been in this business very long, but I have already had way too many people that I do not know introduce themselves with a sales pitch. They wonder why online marketing has such a high failure rate – that is why.

They haven’t taken the time to research online marketing or to study the leaders in this industry. Blogs like yours Amanda, that are reaching out to people and really teaching them what it takes to succeed in this industry are soooooo important. I truly believe by offering valuable content and continuously learning and developing, we can make a huge dent in the failure rate of online businesses.

Another great post Amanda!! Thank you!

  21. Jennifer May Says:

Loved this one Amanda! I definitely agree with all your strategies here. I am sadden to admit that for a short amount of time I was one of those whom you referred to above that I myself do not like their actions very much. But I learned very quickly this was not the right way.

So my main tip I would share is exactly what you said above… find LIKE MINDED people. Do not just randomly add whoever but truly try to find out about the person, what they care about and how you can RELATE to them. Relating is one of the most powerful connections you can have with someone you just met or are getting to know.

So that is exactly what I would suggest is to find those who you can relate to, those who are where you want to be and those who intrigue, inspire or empower you.

In addition if you can truly HELP someone or make someone’s day better through the different sites you work… do it! In result if you help one person on their Facebook Profile (or whatever site you are on) then others who visit that profile will see you also as someone who truly cares and is not there to plaster your “opportunity” all over. And they will see you in the way that you want to be seen.

Great post and strategies! Thanks Amanda!
