Great question Jess!
I would just approach it as if I were already “talking” to the person. So I might say,
“hey girl! I would LOVE to hear more about what you have going on (insert point of interest)… Facebook is so impersonal… Let’s jump on the phone real quick! Do you have a few minutes?”
Or “I’d love to open up a relationship with you and just get to know you better! Facebook is so impersonal… Do u have a few minutes to jump on the phone?”
And remember to open the relationship with no intention of trying to sell them on anything. Just talk and maybe they will be a referral source for you?

Hi this is a great article! I spend a lot of time on facebook so this helps a lot. I do have the same question as Jess above regarding having a hard time to just say “lets get on the phone”. Can you address this for us please? I also had a question for Roz when she said she built most of her business through social media. Roz, can you share how you have done that to help us! Hey there!

Amanda and I have known each other since we were in Katie Freiling’s blogging class over two years ago. It’s been fun to see how we’ve progressed through the years.

I’m a social media marketing consultant, blogger and online retailer. My focus this past year has been on my new organic gardening blog (http://dirtmomma.weebly.com) and rolling out my online store, The Composting Place, which is scheduled to “open” in Spring 2012 (March 20, 2012).

The process of creating my own store and applying all the online marketing skills I’ve acquired these past few years is super exciting! In addition to selling composting products, I will also have video tutorials on composting and organic gardening, as well as books that can be purchased via Amazon.com, and links to helpful resources.

For those who would like to be my “test subjects” just let me know and I’ll send you the URL to the store. Thanks!

Once the store is rolled out, I would like to get back to my original blog (heathertaskovics.net / hmtcreativesolutions.com) and revamp it a bit with new, more helpful, posts and (hopefully) an updated design. Stay tuned!

Hi Amanda, I think the suggestions you gave are very appropriate. Maybe more so now than ever before in the Facebook community. To this day I still get some new FB connection that just don’t get it. It’s all about building relationships. I like the way you brand yourself Amanda and I especially appreciate the Mompreneur Hot Spot community and I’m definitely going to introduce my Girl Friend to this community as I know she’s be in good hands.
