Seems like a simple question right? Unfortunately this question is one that many people have not asked themselves in a VERY long time. Finding our purpose in life is an ongoing journey but a good starting point is to frequently ask yourself this question; “Why do I get out of bed in the morning?”
In today’s society we look favorably upon busyness. People today are busy, and I mean very busy. Running their children to school, and extracurricular activities, working late hours at the office, trying to fit in a workout for themselves, the list goes on and on. Busyness has become a status symbol and gives a feeling of self worth, the busier you are, the more important you must be. People are very serious about everything they must accomplish in a days time and run themselves ragged trying to achieve those tasks.
This never ending cycle of busyness creates one big problem. You may wake up one day and amidst your busyness ask yourself, “What am I trying to do with my life?” You see busyness is a daily and weekly cycle, and doesn’t allow much room for looking into the future. Busyness is a nervous way of living in which approval comes from others rather than yourself. It is time to slow down, and focus on what is really important to you.
The cycle of busyness is one in which you will never feel deeply satisfied. It lacks long-term goals and meaningful action. Finding our true purpose in life, the reason we get up each morning, is how people lead lives of abundance and fulfillment. One way to begin figuring out your life’s purpose is to determine those actions in your schedule which are done for the sake of social status or to be given approval by others and those actions that are an expression of you. When you quiet your mind and begin tuning into those little actions that bring you the most joy you will be on your way to discovering your life’s purpose.
Ask yourself what do you really need in your life? Just after the three basic needs of food, shelter, and clothing…what matters most? What do you want the most? What we truly want the most often reflects our purpose.
Some people are intimidated by trying to find their life’s purpose because they think it needs to be an elaborate plan to change the world. Which, it’s OK if it is, but let’s get real, most people have simple, meaningful purpose statements that drive their lives. Your life’s purpose can be anything you want it to be, whether it is helping others in a specific way, being true to yourself, or providing for your family the best that you can. Please understand that people who are truly living in their purpose are operating at the highest level and are constantly growing, stretching, and utilizing their gifts and talents. It is OK if you don’t know your purpose instantly, you will continue to change and refine it over time. What matters is that you begin thinking about aligning with your purpose and over time more joy and abundance than you ever thought possible will find its way into your life. So really stop for a moment and ask yourself, “Why do I get out of bed in the morning?”

I believe that busyness is a way to sabotage ourselves and wiggle out of our greatness. If we give ourselves the excuse that we are “too busy” to go to the gym, write that blog post or attend our kids’ hockey game then we can help ourselves feel better…temporarily. It truly does becomes a matter of defining what is important to us. If we remain in the busyness, eventually life WILL pass us by and we will look back wondering what happened.
Make the choice to sit, breathe and just be…even if its for just a few minutes. You have to start somewhere…maybe even close your eyes for a bit when you read this. You will have more energy and your thoughts will become more clear. You will be amazed at how good you will feel.
Thanks for this great awareness Amanda!

Hey Kim! Thank you for your thoughts! I couldn’t agree more! As funny as it sounds busyness is what people submerge themselves into to get away from problems in their lives. To achieve greatness it takes action, specific goal oriented action and ALWAYS, ALWAYS, time to step back and work on the ‘big’ things.
Thanks!

Awwww… I loved this post! Our Life’s Purpose is so very crucial to living a true, happy and successful life. When I look back to before knowing are even trying to find my purpose… I was just living day to day “Busy”, worrying about what others thought about me, how my money was going to come in and of course how I need more of it and never really focusing on anything else besides my wants.
A couple years ago I started down a journey that led me to my Life’s Purpose. I went through many challenges, loss of great amounts of money, hardships, fears, difficult circumstances and many other experiences that were very hard for myself and my family. But I have to say I am SO THANKFUL and BLESSED I had the opportunity to go through all of that because I am here now. I found and KNOW my true Life’s Purpose because of my experiences.
I have a few that I truly live for and those are:
1. To give my daughters everything they need to follow their dreams and achieve their goals. Give them so much more than I ever had.
2. To truly Inspire, Empower and Encourage others to live their dreams and to reach for their goals. I want to help lead them to finding their life’s purpose and passion.
3. To give back to the world as much as I can. If I could help families, homeless, donations… whatever it takes to make a positive impact in someone else’s life.
Thank you so much Amanda for this awesome post and allowing us to share our Life’s Purpose!
(Or start our journey to finding it)
